Urban Trails

URBAN TRAILS, artSPACE Durban, 2013

Sound art, Sand, Wood, Participatory installation

In Collaboration with William le Cordeur

This work was actualised as part of a collaborative group exhibition, entitled Urban Trails, by the public art collective, Vuka Ndlovu. The conceptual and creative point of departure of Urban Trails considered public space as the primary site of intervention and production. The work was initiated by two walks with the artists in conversation: One in Pietermaritzburg’s CBD and the other in the hills of the Midlands, KZN. These two journeys were accompanied by the artists’ memories and histories. The artwork took on the form of an interactive installation that opened up the opportunity to touch and play with raw earth, while being submerged in an urban soundscape.
